The Handiwork of Celestials

Among the entities who shape the early universe are the Celestials, one of the oldest and most powerful forms of life to ever exist. These god-like beings pre-date the birth of the cosmos as well as the Infinity Stones, and use their ability to manipulate matter and energy to help construct suns that make life possible on other worlds.

The Six Infinity Stones

The Big Bang creates six objects of indescribable potency. Each represents a different aspect of existence: power, reality, mind, soul, space, and time. In the distant future, a being known as the Collector will describe them this way: "Before creation itself, there were six singularities. Then the universe exploded into existence, and the remnants of these systems were forged into concentrated ingots-Infinity Stones. These stones can only be brandished by beings of extraordinary strength."

Dawn of the Universe
Ego Takes Shape

Not all Celestials are born from the cores of planets. Some evolve seemingly by happenstance, like the Celestial known as Ego. At first just a spark of consciousness alone in deep space, Ego manipulates matter to construct physical neural-networks for itself in a large, brain-like receptacle, then assembles an entire planet layer by layer around that. While other Celestials exist in the form of colossal giants, Ego prefers to mimic more humble forms of life, creating avatars that look like "lesser" sentient creatures found on distant worlds.

The Tree of the World

Yggdrasil is the name given to an immense cosmic collection of nine worlds. It will become home to gods, mortals, giants, Dwarves, and other powerful and unique beings. Before its furnace of stars begin to shine, throwing off the light and warmth that makes such varied life possible, this cold and lightless place is home to shadow-dwellers known as "Dark Elves." These ancient beings are decimated by the emergence of light, and afterward only survive on The Dark World.

The Rise of Asgard

God-like beings from the mystical kingdom of Asgard will establish an empire out of the Nine Realms of Yggdrasil, devising a means of traveling between them using a spectrum of energy they call the Bifrost. Earth is situated at the center of the tree-like Yagdrasil, earning it the name Midgard from the Asgardians as they venture between the higher and lower realms. But the B frost is not the only way to travel across Yggdrasil. Every 5,000 years, the Nine Realms orbit into alignment, creating wormholes through spacetime that allow passage from one realm to the next-an event known as the Convergence.

The Distant Past
Earth, Midgard, Terra

Known by many names, this tiny speck in the endless void of space, a blue and green world in the Yggdrasil array, will become the site of a significant number of universe-shaping events it starts, as all worlds do, harsh and barren, but oceans form over the eons, an oxygen-rich atmosphere envelops the globe, and a vibrant array of plant and animal life blossoms on its surface. Arishem chooses Earth as the womb for a new Celestial known as Tiamut, whose seed is implanted just as intelligent life on the planet begins to thrive. One day, the human beings here will generate a high volume of powerful individuals whose actions reverberate far beyond their own solar system, sending shockwaves throughout the cosmos and even, in some cases, the Multiverse.

Arishem

Arishem, known as the Prime Celestial, oversees a grand plan to create more of his kind. On selected planets, Celestial seeds are implanted. When large populations of sentient beings amass on those worlds, their collective lifeforce radiates the energy necessary to incubate the new Celestials, who after millions of years hatch from the center of the planets, destroying all who live on them. But they go on, in turn, to create more suns that brighten lush planets where other species of intelligent life will rise. A vast cycle of creation and destruction begins.
